A new trailer for the upcoming Star Wars film, The Mandalorian & Grogu, debuted during the Super Bowl, reigniting excitement for the return of Din Djarin and his foundling companion. The movie marks the first major Star Wars theatrical release since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker.
Return of the Duo
Pedro Pascal reprises his role as the Mandalorian, while Grogu (formerly known as Baby Yoda) will once again join him on an adventure across the galaxy. The story picks up roughly three years after the conclusion of The Mandalorian’s third season on Disney Plus.
This time, Mando and Grogu aren’t simply bounty hunting or wandering the Outer Rim; they’ve been tasked with safeguarding the fragile New Republic. The fall of the Galactic Empire didn’t eradicate all threats to peace, and remnants of Imperial forces—along with other criminal elements—remain active.
New Faces & Familiar Threats
The cast includes Sigourney Weaver in an undisclosed role, The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt (son of the infamous Jabba), and Jonny Coyne as an Imperial Warlord determined to resurrect the Empire’s dominance.
The film is directed by Jon Favreau, who co-wrote the script with Star Wars architect Dave Filoni. This collaboration suggests a direct continuation of the expanded universe established through The Mandalorian and related Disney Plus series.
Release Date & What to Expect
The Mandalorian & Grogu is slated for a theatrical release on May 22. The trailer confirms a return to the core dynamic of the series, with Mando and Grogu facing new dangers while protecting the galaxy’s nascent peace. The film is poised to bridge the gap between the Disney Plus series and a potential larger cinematic revival of Star Wars.
