Xfinity Enhances Winter Olympics Viewing with AI and Customization

Comcast’s Xfinity is rolling out a suite of upgrades designed to give viewers greater control and immersion during the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina. The features, including AI-powered DVR tagging, customizable Multiview displays, and RealTime 4K streaming, aim to make the viewing experience more personalized and accessible. These updates come as major sports events – the Super Bowl, NBA All-Star Game, and the Winter Olympics – converge in February, promising a peak in television viewership.

AI-Powered DVR for Key Moments

One of the standout features is the AI-assisted DVR, which automatically identifies and tags significant moments within recorded broadcasts. During a demo, the AI accurately marked key events in the opening ceremony (like “Team USA enters”), allowing users to jump directly to highlights without manual scrubbing. According to Comcast’s VP of Sports Entertainment, Vito Forlenza, this ensures viewers “can get to them quickly and easily without having to sift through.”

Immersive Viewing Experience

Xfinity is integrating the Olympics into its home screen and dedicated hub, making it easier for viewers to find live events on NBC, Peacock, USA, and CNBC. The platform also offers access to Peacock programming, medal counts, and the Fan View feature, which provides real-time stats, medal updates, and immersive shots of Olympic venues.

Fan View, previously tested with NBA and NFL games, allows viewers to select their favorite sports and track key information.

Customizable Multiview and 4K Streaming

Instead of a pre-set layout, Xfinity’s Multiview feature lets users customize their display with up to four live feeds simultaneously. Viewers can choose between Olympics coverage, basketball, NFL games, or figure skating. The platform also allows for enlarging one feed while keeping the others visible, and provides quick access to Fan View for stats or sports betting sites (where legal).

The Winter Olympics will also be available in RealTime 4K with Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision, mirroring the Super Bowl experience. A Peacock 4K feed will be integrated into the channel guide, automatically switching over when the Super Bowl airs. This is available to all Xfinity customers.

In essence, Xfinity is betting that a combination of AI-driven convenience and hyper-personalization will keep viewers engaged throughout the Winter Olympics and beyond. The company’s strategy reflects a broader trend towards immersive, on-demand entertainment experiences, where consumers expect greater control over how and what they watch.
